Power4Youth
is a network of youth with alternative care experience. Believing that young
people are the best advocates for themselves and their peers and that their
experience is an expertise, our theme for this seminar is ''be the change we want to see in the world''. Overall
objective of the youth component is to
create a platform of discussion from an active network of young people growing
up in care across Europe, capable and supported to participate in the
implementation of quality standards in alternative care. From this theme and overall objective, the identified objectives are:
1) to strengthen the existing network of
young people under the membership of Power4Youth by sharing experiences,
exchanging knowledge on the theme of ‘Alternative Care in Europe’ and making
concrete action plans for expanding our core group and activities;
2) to create a safe and encouraging platform
environment where young people with fewer opportunities can exchange
experiences and contribute to each others learning opportunities (non-formal
learning peer support)
3) to invest in young peoples knowledge and
ability to advocate for themselves supporting the recognition of skills and
competencies of P4Y members in the area of European networking, youth in
alternative care, social media and non-formal learning;
4) to support the use and promotion of
social media, creativity and non-formal learning opportunities as advocacy and
personal growth activities for P4Y members and support their well-being;
5) to create and sustain social cohesion
for young people with fewer opportunities in Europe
We will
welcome 24 P4Y members for this three day event to the StayOkay Youth Hostel in
Den Haag, The Netherlands - from Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Ireland,
Bulgaria, Estonia, Croatia, United Kingdom, Finland, Czech Republic and
Romania.
The working
methodologies, topics and success factors include 1) group bonding activities;
2) exploration, discussion and exchange of alternative care in Europe according
to the P4Y members and the countries they represent (including policy, practice
and personal experience from the 11 European Countries) 3) workshops linking
non formal learning with social media to build skills of our members so they
can promote P4Y and continue exchange after event; 4) an exploration and
exchange of EU and the national youth policies for the represented youth in
alternative care; 5)workshop on developing project plans for the coming year in
each member country including social media as a medium. Methods
applied will be based on principles of non-formal education, including: learner-centred
and co-creative partnerships, peer training, cooperative learning, interactive
and experiential learning, interactive platform for exchange of information,
learning and experience; group and individual work, incorporation of artistic
and creative methodologies, i.e. the use of narrative, music, art and other
media. By being the change we want to
see in the world, youth with alternative care experience are the best
advocates for themselves and their peers and are the future leaders.
